Providence Road / McKee Road Intersection Improvement Project

Earlier this summer in June, the City of Charlotte/Charlotte Department of Transportation held a public meeting to introduce the “Providence Road and McKee Road/Ballantyne Commons Parkway Intersection Improvement Project“.

The objective of this project is to improve travel through the intersection while helping the intersection’s capacity for peak traffic volumes. It also will fix gaps in curbs, gutters and sidewalks within the project limits and provide bike lanes where practical.

Area Construction Project to Begin Soon

Char-Meck’s Engineering & Property Management department (EPM) recently mailed postcards to residents of Providence Arbours (and neighboring communities) to advise that an area construction project will begin in October 2010.

The City Council recently awarded a construction contract for the Providence I-485 Area Sidewalk Project that includes the construction of:

Sidewalks
Access Ramps
Crosswalks
Pedestrian Signals

The construction work is scheduled to begin along McKee Road (from Tilley Morris Road to Knox Avenue) and along Ballantyne Commons Parkway (from Quail Acres Road to Annalexa Lane).

The Providence Arbours HOA Board has been notified that the construction project includes the building of a sidewalk adjacent to our community just east of the main entrance along McKee Road. This work will impact Providence Arbour’s existing irrigation system. The city intends to relocate the irrigation systems and will assume the cost to do so.

Keep Students (and Drivers) Safe!

With Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and most area private schools back in session, the streets in Providence Arbours and across the city are busy in the morning with students and school buses.

Such activity calls for extra care and patience when driving through the neighborhood.

This is a great time of the year to review North Carolina’s School Bus Stop Law. Please be sure to obey all school bus and general traffic laws to keep students (and drivers) safe.

And be sure to bring your vehicle to a complete stop at neighborhood stop signs. It is likely that Charlotte-Mecklenburg police will be making their seasonal return to the neighborhood to watch for compliance at stop signs.

Bus Stop Safety

With area schools back in session, children from Providence Arbours and neighboring communities are frequenting bus stops in the early morning and afternoons.

Your help is needed to maintain safety.

Please take the opportunity to remind all drivers in your household of the following basic “back to school” safety tips.

1) Obey all posted traffic signs. This includes making a FULL and COMPLETE STOP at stop signs. (Note: Char-Meck police officers are known to patrol intersections in Providence Arbours to ensure compliance by community drivers).

2) When a school bus stops for passengers in Providence Arbours, all traffic in both directions must come to a stop.
